Pitchfork - The Big Screen
Pitchfork went by in a blur.
This year was more crowded. More muddy. And more muggy.
The highlights of this trip included seeing Vampire Weekend, M. Ward with a full band, the Apples in Stereo, !!! and the lead singers dance moves, the Hold Steady totally rocking out in the heat and the 312 beer. You can't beat good beer on a hot July day.
Next to the two main stages were huge screens allowing the crowd to see what was going on if they were across the park. I took a few pics of the big screen during a few of the acts. Here is my collection:

Countdown to.... PITCHFORK!
I'm heading to Chicago this weekend for the fourth year of awesomeness in Union Park!
Pitchfork Music Festival!
As I study each band I'll make notes of what I believe their sound to be like.
I'll post these notes up on the blog. If anyone has extra comments about bands I should see... please give me some feedback!
Before I post the lineup below.. I'm going to say that I'm pumped to see Animal Collective outdoors. I've seen them a couple of times indoors closed off in a packed environment. And the last time I saw them (at the Dame in Lexington) they were amazing! I am looking forward to seeing Fleet Foxes. And Spoon! And Vampire Weekend.. And M. Ward!! And Bon Iver...
And the best part is meeting the people... loading on the sunscreen.. sunhats.. water... and just being in Chicago.
Here's the lineup for Sat and Sun. (I am skipping Friday so that I can see my friends BIG FRESH play in Louisville at Headliners that night. If you are in town.. come out! and see this super fun band.)

BLONDIE
Blondie played last night at the Kentucky Center.
It was the 30th anniversary of the Parallel Lines album.
The band {which was the original lineup minus the bass player} rocked hard!
Debra still had the moves that she punked out in the 1984 Glasgow Concert.
There was a lot of clapping, bouncing around and arms waving in the air.
Thanks for coming to Louisville Blondie!

Summer Beats
Record Day 2008 was a few weeks ago.
I received the Sub Pop birthday CD Sampler {for FREE! - thnx earxtacy!}.
I made a list of bands that stood out to me from this sampler.
I loved: Grand Archives, Sera Cahone, Fleet Foxes, Wolf Parade & The Helio Sequence.
I will bump and pump this music loudly in my car this summer.
You guys should really check out Fleet Foxes and The Helio Sequence.
Fleet Foxes have a song that kind of reminds me of The Shins when they released "new slang" when it was called "when you notice the stripes" off of their self-released omnicom record label.. Fleet Foxes has a sweet sound that will pull you in. Campfire-esque.
Helio Sequence makes me think of the Beta Band, even though I never really listened to the Beta Band or could tell you the name of a Beta Band song. Helio Sequence has a cool electronic dreamy sound to them. They play a couple of their songs on WFPK. The song "Can't Say No" always seems to linger in my head after hearing it...
Can I get a shout out to public radio for playing the stuff I enjoy!
Thanks WFPK!!
